Qualities of Good Writings
There has been one book in recent memory that has a made a profound impact on my life. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis was incredibly influential in my life when I first read it a year ago. The chapter by chapter "letters" that Lewis writes allows for a reading experience that differs from almost any other fictional book as it allows for the reader to read each chapter or "letter" as its own personal story over a longer course of time rather than sitting down and reading the whole book all in one go. This allows the mind to take time to digest what it has just consumed. Each "letter" is at a different stage in a man's life and the challenges that he is facing at that moments. The early chapters dealing with the problems that are common in a young man's life such as love and school, and the later chapters dealing with the hardships of the death of a loved one, war, and growing old. Overall The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis encouraged me to reflect on my own life, to see the flaws and failures that I experienced and how I can grow in compassion and integrity.
